The Art of Islamic Pattern                                         Continuing Module 1

This 10 week module is for students who have already completed an introductory course, or who have with an equivalent knowledge of Islamic arts practice. The module will comprise 4 sessions of geometric design, in which students can develop a deeper understanding of the language of symmetry in Islamic art and explore a wider range of classical designs. There will be 2 sessions of Islimi (Arabesque), covering new biomorphic motifs and during which students will gain greater confidence with their freehand biomorphic work. The course culminates with 4 final extended workshop sessions (2 pm – 5:00pm), where students will have to opportunity to develop one or more substantial pieces in a medium of their choosing: gilding, marquetry, ceramics, mosaic, stone and plaster carving will all be available.

Note: The geometric and biomorphic designs studied on this module are different to those covered in previous Introductory Courses and Advanced Modules.
